Here are some pictures and associated facts from each, for the record.
Coreen and I would ride bikes into the city (about 20 mins). Here's a picture of her riding on a path inside the ADM.
Canal tour: this pic was taken of a clock tower called crazy John, because it used to always keep bad time.
Canal tour. Here's a classic view of the main canal. You can see seven bridges in a row.
These protective rails were put along the canal in the '60s. Still at least 1 car a week falls in.
There are these hoists sticking out of the tops of most buildings. Buildings were built deep and narrow. This was to avoid taxes, as people were taxed on how much canal space their house took up, not total size or price. The only way to get furniture into these buildings is through upper windows, as stairways and doorways were built to narrow as a tax dodge.
This is a creepy building. Apparently the woman of the house suspected six servants of stealing. They were beheaded, and busts were made of their heads and placed on the exteriour first floor.
Here's me eating at an Automat. Some kind of breaded / fried sausage.
Me outside the brewery "Brouwerij 't IJ," Yes, it's inside an old-school windmill
List of beers we sampled at the brewery. Notice the tour listings on the left -> Dutch tour at 13:30, English tour at 15:00, French tour NEVER!
French tour NEVER! Ha!
ReplyDeleteAnd for being beheaded servants, those busts look rather ritzy (can't see them very well though).
